Chinese Director Cathy Yan takes on her second motion picture, and it’s a big one. The movie version of the Warner Brother’s TV series shares the same title. Birds of Prey tells the story of DC Universe villain and ex-girlfriend of The Joker, Harley Quinn gone more rogue vigilante with a group of almost equally badass women. Margot Robbie reprises her role as the hard-talking, hard-charging, and radically fashionable Quinn after the events of 2016’s Suicide Squad movie. This time, she’s sans Joker and teaming up with Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), the Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Gotham City police officer Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) to help protect Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) against the crazed villains Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) and serial killer Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina). It looks like a violent, hilarious, and messy good time that will easily one-up its prequel. The movie opens in theaters on February 7, 2020.
