If you’ve ever wished your brand new pair of sneakers came with a power boost, tech company Shift Robotics may have a solution for you. The Pittsburgh engineering team has developed the Moonwalkers, a device that has been dubbed “the world’s fastest shoes.” Simply strap in the Moonwalkers and the device’s AI drivetrain, which uses algorithms to adjust to your stride and leg extension, will propel you forward at a roughly 250% boost in walking speed. Thanks to the ergonomic hinge system built into Moonwalkers, you step normally while the device’s eight wheels push you forward.
The Moonwalkers feature a universal strap so you can wear them with any footwear options. Plus the USB-C charger gives you 6 miles of range in just an hour and a half. The design is fascinating and we can see a lot of benefit in the ability to briskly zoom across town without much effort. It’s a little hard to push past how goofy the entire set-up is but perhaps it just takes getting used to. You can back the Moonwalkers on Kickstarter now for $1,099 with fulfillment scheduled for April 2023.
