There hasn’t been a legitimate competitor to an Apple music player for quite some time, but by the time you read this the Pono Music system will probably have eclipsed the million dollar mark on Kickstarter. The first six minutes of the video is a who’s who of famous musicians, engineers and record execs singing the praises of the Pono Music system. This is due in no small part to the fact that the entire project was started by Neil Young (yes, that Neil Young) to bring the analog experience back to music. Head to the PonoMusic store, find the music you want, download it to your computer and then sync your PonoPlayer. Using one of the two audio outputs (mini-stereo specifically for headphones and stereo mini-plug analog specifically for speakers), and the FLAC format, the Pono system lets you enjoy music at the quality level it was originally recorded at. This is the best way to get your audiophile fix on the go.

Unzip your coat and have some mulled wine on the house—you’ve arrived at your final gifting destination: The Holiday Gift Guide. It’s like your friendly neighborhood one-stop holiday shop, except instead of balsa wood ornaments, ours is packed with thoughtful gifts for everyone on your list. Future heirlooms, small-but-significant stocking stuffers, and gear for getting out there (or staying in)—are all right here. There’s no music playing in the background though, so you’ll just have to hum Bing Crosby while you click around instead.
