Almost a year ago today, Nest, the company known for their futuristic thermostats and smoke alarms, purchased DropCam, the makers of clever home security cameras. Now we see why. Nest Cam is the new home security rig from Nest that basically mimics the old DropCam cameras. It streams 1080p video with a 130 degree field of view, comes with a built-in mic and speaker, and connects to Wi-Fi. New is the magnetic mounting and redesigned body. The new Nest Cam will work with Nest’s Aware service. The cloud-based service will allow users to see recorded video from up to a month ago, set zones where you can be alerted if there’s activity, and even share snippets of video. It will all work through the Nest app, and it’s further proof Nest is working toward next-level mobile access to your entire home.
