Remember the Hyundai Elevate Concept unveiled a couple years ago that was capable of walking and climbing stairs? Hyundai is doubling down on the engineering behind that concept in a big with their latest concept, TIGER X-1. TIGER X-1, which stands for Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot and X-1 for experimental, is Hyundai’s second ultimate mobility vehicle concept after the Elevate, but this one is only about the size of a suitcase and is completely unmanned. The modular vehicle is designed for payload delivery and to function as a mobile scientific exploration platform in extreme, remote locations. TIGER works much like a normal robot or R/C car using wheels as the primary mode of transportation–until it reaches an obstacle it can’t drive over when it transitions to four-legged walking mode. As if that we’re enough, it’s also designed to connect to UAVs so it can be charged and delivered to otherwise inaccessible locations. We can’t wait to see one of these on the Moon or the surface of Mars.
