Not all that long ago, we talked about how German outfit Ballfinger was resurrecting the reel-to-reel tape recorder of yore. Prototypes were originally unveiled at the North German Hifi Days audio show, but now they’re ready to release a whole line of new, old technology into the marketplace. Built with modular product architecture, Ballfinger’s reel-to-reel options are all based on a sleek and stylish aluminum and walnut base that is then customized in four different ways depending on what you want to be able to do with all that magnetic tape you have sitting in the basement. If you’re a hardcore audiophile with a bunch of money burning a hole in your pocket, this might be an even better option than a turntable. The four options in the line are all expected to be released later this month with prices starting at around $11k for the “entry level” model and going up from there.
