Everyone’s most lauded or hated fruit-branded technology vendor has been teasing an augmented/virtual reality goggle product/experience for as long as we can remember. The Oculus Rift came and went. The Meta Quest 2 took a big hit with all the company changes. The VIVE never really took off. Now that Apple has finally released all the details on the Vision Pro “ski goggles” setup, “the first Apple product you look through, and not at,” according to CEO Tim Cook, there’s no denying the fact this particular piece of hardware is primed to take pole position in the entire space based on hardware specs alone. With over ten cameras, a half-dozen microphones, 4K displays for each eye and Zeiss custom optical inserts, the hardware and engineering alone position the Vision Pro head, shoulders, eyes and experience above every other option… despite the insane price tag and the fact it isn’t slated for release until early 2024.
