New Balance has been making fantastic footwear for more than a century, but the brand really hit their stride in terms of “iconic sneakers” in the 1990s. While they have as many different options as all the other large sneaker houses, one of our absolute favorites has always been the 997 style because of the myriad collaborations that have happened since designer Steven Smith debuted it in 1990. After previous inspired-by and collaborative sneakers that referred to events like the Moon landing and brands like J.Crew, New Balance has once again teamed up with Todd Snyder for another modern-meets-retro version of the 997. The Todd Snyder x New Balance Reimagined 997 Triborough Sneaker retains the styling and accents of a vintage roadster like its predecessor, while being combined with modern ENCAP midsole cushioning (lighweight foam and durable poly rim), pig suede upper and synthetic / foam vamp construction to marry the past and the present. The icing on the cake as it were is the presence of the old school “Flying NB” logo that’s been absent on New Balance Shoes for the better part of three decades. The Todd Snyder x New Balance Reimagined 997 Triborough Sneaker is available now exclusively through the designer’s stores in grey, burgundy and navy colorways.
