Sustainability and the effect our products have on the planet is something we all think about from time to time. Unfortunately, recycling plastic isn’t enough if you want to make a real dent in your carbon footprint. That’s where Soapbottle, a unique soap dispenser that’s made of soap, comes in. Project Soapbottle was originally conceived of by product designer Jonna Breitenhuber during her master’s thesis program when she discovered that there was almost no plastic repackaging in the world of cosmetics. She assembled a team and took the Soapbottle from concept to reality as part of a new Kickstarter project. Each Soapbottle contains 100ml of liquid soap packaged in a sustainable soap container and designed to sit on your counter or hang from a ribbon in your shower. Once you’re done with the liquid soap inside, you use the package itself much like bar soap until it completely dissolves. While it’s not exactly cheap or easily refilled, it’s a cool and innovative product that rethinks how we can deal with sustainability and waste.
