We like our bikes. They effortlessly blend cool with environmental friendly in an easy to use package. So naturally we were stoked when Sole Bikes dropped their Windward City Cruiser in our hands for a test spin.
What is it?
The City Cruiser is a more sophisticated commuter that is part modern with vintage touches such as a leather springer saddle, quill stem, and coaster brake.
Who is it made for?
Urbanites and city dwellers. The City Cruiser’s classic appeal means that you will arrive in style both riding it to work at your start-up in NYC as well as for a latte on the weekend.
How does it feel?
Solid. The steel frame and Sole’s signature geometry make for a stable, balanced ride. Plus the upright riding position thanks to the swept back handlebars as well as cork grips and springy seat make long commutes a walk in the park.
What we liked:
The style. This is a bike for people that like design. The vintage trim and leather saddle work with the modern Sole aesthetic to create a subtle, very stylish bicycle. Plus the fenders kept the assorted road mess off our trousers.
What we didn’t like:
While it isn’t a definite didn’t like, this bike is well-suited to city dwellers. Take that to mean it isn’t geared well for hills as it only has one speed. Not a total negative just meant we had to get out of the saddle when faced with a uphill.
Coolest feature:
It’s a bike. Everything about it is cool.
Would we Buy it?
Even though the price is a bit higher than other Sole bikes, we think it is well worth it. The classic design means that it would be a valued possession, something to be treasured and kept for years of use. Plus we couldn’t help but notice that, while the supplied leather saddle is handsome, how good a certain English made saddle would look on this. So would we buy it? Yes, definitely!
