10 Movie Cars That Outperformed The Lead Actor

When actors get old they get replaced by younger, newer models, but classic cars appreciate in value. Looking back at some of our favorite movies the cars are just as memorable (if not more so) than the actors themselves. Hell, in some cases the cars outperformed the lead actor.

“Eleanor” Shelby Mustang GT500 – Gone in 60 Seconds

Critically, Gone in 60 Seconds was blamed for wrecking Nicolas Cage’s career, but really, the hard feelings come from the fact that he wrecked such a gorgeous car in the film.

1977 Bumblebee Camaro – Transformers

Too bad there’s not more than meets the eye with Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox’s acting in Transformers… otherwise Bumblebee wouldn’t be our favorite character.

1967 Pontiac GTO – xXx

The 1967 Pontiac GTO is an amazing car, but to be fair, it doesn’t take much to out perform Vin Diesel.

1977 Pontiac Trans Am – Smokey and the Bandit

Okay, maybe in this case it’s a tie between Burt Reynold’s mustache and the Trans Am.

“Grease Lightning” 1948 Ford Convertible – Grease

Seriously, the only reason guys watched Grease isn’t for Jon Travolta’s singing. It’s the 1948 Ford Convertible and Olivia Newton-John in those leather pants.

1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

There’s no amount of 80s cool guy antics that could ever make up for trashing that rare and beautiful Ferrari, which as Cameron points out there were less 100 made. (Luckily the movie version was fake).

“General Lee” 1969 Dodge Charger – The Dukes of Hazzard

Actors can be replaced and updated, but the 1969 Dodge Charger is the only car that can play the General Lee.

1981 DeLorean DMC-12 – Back to the Future

The DeLorean is a terrible car, but Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox made it a cultural trademark with a legacy as long as their acting careers in a “it’s so bad it’s good” kind of way.

“Interceptor” 1974 Ford Falcon – The Road Warrior

Back then the 1974 Ford Falcon was more well known then this Mel Gibson guy who just went to the Mad Max audition with his friend, not really planning to get the part.

1963 Volkswagen Beetle – Herbie

Herbie 53 is a love bug with a mind of his own, which is more than can be said for a vapid, wasted Lindsay Lohan.
