Gravel bikes are all the rage these days, combining speed, ruggedness, and versatility in one package. Specialized has just created the world’s lightest version with the 16-pound S Works Crux. The carbon fiber Crux is based on the Aethos, its predecessor, but the Crux is lighter, stronger, and more stable. The tubes are straighter, the joints are stronger, and the bike is more capable than the one it replaces. The frame, itself, weighs in at a scant two pounds, or barely more than a full bike-friendly water bottle. The Crux comes with 38mm knobby tires, but the S-Works FACT Carbon fork will accommodate up to 47c/650b x 2.1” tires. Other equipment includes SRAM drivetrain components, SRAM RED eTap AXS hydraulic disc brakes, Roval Terra CLX Disc wheels, and a Roval carbon seatpost and carbon drop bars. Tread lightly, indeed.
