Hyundai-45-Concept

Hyundai is on a roll with exciting new products like the Veloster Turbo N hot hatch, and now they want to show us what the EV future might look like with the Hyundai 45. So named for its first mass-market car that bowed at the 1974 Turin Motor Show, the Hyundai Pony. That’s 45 years ago, and the teaser images show cues pulled from the original. The squarish concept employs a moving LED light signature a-la Knight Rider, and from what we can tell, the overall shape is very retro versus some of their slinkier concepts like the Le Fil Rouge. The original Pony was designed by none other than Giorgetto Giugiaro who later penned the DeLorean DMC-12 that happens to use some of the same styling elements as the Pony, albeit to a more prominent effect. The 45 is part of the brand’s EV campaign known as “Style Set Free”. The EV platform will also underpin new electric vehicles from Hyundai beginning in 2021. Look for the 45’s full reveal at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show from September 10-22.
