Ford Bronco R Prototype

Car and truck nuts (no, not dangling trucknuts) are waiting for the new production Ford Bronco SUV to show up, but in the meantime, we can feast on the race-ready Bronco R that commemorates the 50th anniversary for the Bronco’s win at the 1959 Baja 1000, one of the most grueling off-road races on earth (second only to the nearly 3,500-mile Dakar Rally). The Bronco R gets dressed up in the same paint livery as its predecessor with a modern update. It also comes with the requisite gear such as high-travel suspension under massive fenders, big off-road rubber, roll cage, and a powerful turbocharged EcoBoost engine, probably similar to the 450-hp version in the current Ford Raptor. The lightweight composite body is bolted to the frame with “Bronco” branded rivets visible from the exterior. There are a whopping 15 sets of LED rally lights in the fascia and at the top of the windshield frame… and we’re guessing no air conditioning is necessary since there are no windows. Watch it return to the Baja 1000 from Tuesday, November 19 through Sunday, November 24th and see if it can reclaim the trophy.
