Gone are wagon-like Bimmers we’ve loved and lost. The M Coupe, the Z4 M Coupe, and the 3-Series Sportwagon. Now, BMW is teasing us in the worst way with this one-off Concept Touring Coupé that’s a Z4-based shooting brake (Brit-speak for a two-door wagon) that recently showed up at the annual Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance. The Concept Touring Coupé looks a lot like the Z4 convertible from the front, but it’s another animal altogether from the doors to the tail with a pretty much coachbuilt greenhouse and back end. The long roofline ends in a dramatic liftgate that incorporates a roof spoiler, steeply raked rear glass, and some of the most fetching taillights we’ve ever seen from Bavaria. Even the famous Hofmeister kink in the rear side window is as dramatic as it’s ever been. The Concept Touring Coupé also gets a special brown Sparkling Lario paint made just for this model, and it uses flakes of blue glass that sparkle in certain lights. It also gets staggered 20″ front and 21″ rear wheels, Italian Poltrona Frau leather upholstery, and custom Schedoni leather luggage for the boot. Power comes from a silky BMW inline-six engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Will they build a version for the rest of us? Probably not, and we hate them for it.
