Bertone’s Legendary Archives Sold at Auction

Bertone is one of the most famous coachbuilders in the world, but that’s all coming to an end due to financial hardships. The design house is known for having created gorgeous one-offs for the likes of Fiat, Lancia, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini, BMW, Aston Martin, and Volvo. The most renowned projects were headed by Marcello Gandini, the famed designer known for such concept icons as the Lancia Stratos HF Zero, Alfa Romeo Carabo, and the Alfa Romeo Navajo, as well as production legends like the Lamborghini Miura, Countach, and Diablo. A decade ago, it was forced to sell its illustrious concept car collection, and the Italian courts just off the rest of Bertone’s wares, including design blueprints, scale models, die-cast cars, paintings, etc. These are historic archives, and there’s no telling what the value of the items will be in the future. An anonymous bidder just won a big chunk of automotive history for about $36,600, or about the price of a loaded Honda Accord.
