2019 Volkswagen Atlas Basecamp Concept

VW wants to showcase their biggest SUV’s adventure leanings with the Atlas Basecamp Concept. VW Designer Alex Earle thought up the concept, and the finished product is one we’d love to see in production someday (it’s nice to dream). Most of the upper half of the Basecamp looks like a conventional Atlas, but the bottom half gets ruggedized rocker panels, black trim, and beefier off-road tires shod on murdered out wheels. There’s also a black safari rack with an LED lightbar and tasty orange highlights applied on the grille, side mirrors, and in the Basecamp logo just aft of the front fenders. Underneath, the Basecamp is powered by the premium Atlas 3.6-liter V6 engine, but the suspension gets upgraded for more serious off-road duties. The icing on the camping cake is the companion HIVE EX compact expedition trailer that houses a queen-size bed, pullout canopy, kitchenette, portable toilet, and shower, just to name a few. The concept pair will be on display at the New York Auto Show and SEMA.
