The United States has done some pretty crazy shit over the years, but we’re sure you’ll agree that putting men on the moon outweighs quite a few of our other transgressions as a nation. None of us has the luxury to travel there ourselves at the time of this writing, but that doesn’t mean you can’t own a piece of history with the Apollo 11 Lunar Module Timeline Book that’s set to go up for auction at Christie’s. This is the one, the only, actual Timeline Book that sat between Armstrong and Aldrin as they made that historic leap almost five decades ago. According to the description from Christie’s, “The Apollo 11 Lunar Module Timeline Book will be on view at Christie’s in New York (4-15 May), Christie’s in Hong Kong (24-27 May), and Christie’s in Beijing (13-16 June), with later dates in San Francisco and Seattle to be announced.” They also went on to say that, “No more significant document of space exploration history is ever likely to be created, because future manned missions will be more fully digitised and not leave a comparable human trace.” We’re inclined to agree. Shooting a car into space and landing an unmanned rocket on a floating barge is no small feat, but their also not necessarily what we would consider giant leaps for mankind in the grand scheme of things.
