There’s no denying the fact that we all spend way too much time on our phones. What kind of world would we live in, and what kind of experiences would we have, if there was a blackout that forced us to live without all technology except radio? That’s essentially the backdrop for the new scripted apocalyptic thriller podcast Blackout. It’s written by Scott Conroy. It’s produced by and stars everyone’s favorite fictional hacker and frontman, Rami Malek. It’s an exploration into the world of the human condition through the lens of apocalypse survival without zombies that hasn’t been done this well since the ill-fated TV show Jericho. We’ll be the first to admit that it’s at least mildly ironic to be listening to a podcast about a blackout on our phones, but the audio-only medium is perfect for this particular story. And, obviously, Malek and the rest of the cast are pretty damned great in each of their roles.
