Louis XIII Got Even More Bougie With a $50K Single-Barrel Cognac
Louis XIII is one of the most sought after spirits the world over because it’s one of–if not the–most exquisite combinations of craft, construction, and cellaring that has ever been bottled for the world to enjoy. With that kind of process, along with the unique decanters, incredible processes, and delicate production, it’s easy to see why any bottle of Louis XIII is priced so highly. Which is nothing compared to the first edition of the RARE CASK collection: the Louis XIII Rare Cask 42.1 set you see here.
As the team at Louis tells it: “RARE CASK 42.1 is the first edition of the RARE CASK collection to be presented as a ritual set. The black crystal decanter is accompanied by crystal glasses ornated with black quatrefoils and a serving pipette featuring a black medallion. The forming of each decanter is a spectacular demonstration of the juxtaposition of art and savoir-faire. Inspired by a flask unearthed on the battlefield of Jarnac in 1569, each Rare Cask limited edition decanter is handcrafted at the House of Baccarat in France. The single tierçon provides a limited number of just over 775 decanters, specially crafted from black crystal by Baccarat. RARE CASK 42.1 illustrates the importance of Caring for Wonders – for Time and Nature, at the crossroads of art and savoir-faire.”
The LOUIS XIII Rare Cask 42.1 set is expected to fetch a retail price of $50k through the Louis concierge, but given the absurdly limited availability, we expect that price to be about as common as getting Pappy for retail.
