Lotus has been through its ups and downs over the past decade, but its focus has never deviated from building cars for driving enthusiasts and the track-hungry. The new Eletre electric SUV is its first major departure from its sporty cars and gas propulsion. The new entrant in the EV playing field is far less about lightweight track duties, though it still packs 600 horsepower worth of oomph. It will also provide 373 miles of all-electric range and fast-charging capability. The Eletre benefits from the world’s first deployable LiDAR system and advanced autonomous driving capabilities, but we don’t know what level of driving autonomy it possesses. In terms of styling, the electric SUV has a rakish body and a muscular stance, while the interior boasts acres of suede, cutting-edge infotainment technology, and classic Lotus colorways. It’s now on sale in China, Europe, and the UK, and it should hit our shores in 2024.
