INEOS Grenadier

INEOS Grenadier

It might look like a vintage Land Rover Defender, but the British Ineos Grenadier is meant to be a modernized version of the off-road legend that also happens to borrow a lot of the original’s iconic looks. British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe first tried to buy the old Defender tooling and designs, but Land Rover said no. The Grenadier is his answer. The five-seat SUV will get a 282 horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine from BMW, and it’s mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission that routes power to a permanent four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case. The body-on-frame Grenadier has live axles in front and back and a locking center differential. There are no drive modes, and it’s deliberately an old-school off-roader that simplifies the SUV equation without sacrificing style. Expect the Grenadier to come to the U.S. some time in 2023.
