Sometimes relationships start between actors and actresses on a movie set only to later implode for all the world to witness. Other on-set relationships fare much better. Case in point, Dustin Hoffman and his 1949 Buick Roadmaster from the Oscar-winning 1989 movie Rain Man where he played autistic savant Raymond to brother Charlie, played by Tom Cruise. The two road trip in the big barge of a convertible, and Hoffman took ownership of it shortly after filming ended. The car has Sequoia Cream paint over red leather and a tan soft top. It’s powered by a 5.24-liter 8-cylinder engine mated to a two-speed automatic transmission. Output is rated at 150 horsepower. Hoffman is parting with it because it’s just not driven enough and wants it to be enjoyed by a new owner. Bonhams will auction it off on January 27th, and it’s expected to go for upwards of a quarter mil.
