When it comes to whiskey brands everyone is talking about, Bushmills is about the end of the digestive tract when the Wellerz are the tip of the tongue. But oddly enough, that might change with the latest Bushmills The Rare Casks series release. Rare Cask #3 is one of the most complex and full-bodied whiskeys ever produced–certainly in the history of this otherwise storied Irish whiskey brand–and featured some of the world’s rarest single malt whiskeys aged in hand-selected casks and released in small quantities. The end result is a collection of whiskeys that were aged in bourbon and Oloroso sherry barrels, matured for over a decade, finished for almost two more decades in Madeira casks and finally bottled at cask strength of 98 proof at the ripe old age of 30 years. While we hesitate to say any bottled spirit is perfect, this 30 year old Bushmills single malt Rare Casks #3 is about as close as it gets.
