We’re all for archiving the past, digging through previous creations and reflecting on the past to create something awesome in the present. The people at the Exercise Book Archive believe in the same sort of thing, which is why they’ve been arching a collection of children’s school notebooks from around the world for almost two decades. What’s more, all those writings, drawing and meandering doodles dating back as far as the late 1700s have all been archived digitally so you can view the entirety of the contents online. As they put it, “The Exercise Book Archive is an ever-growing, participatory archive of old exercise books that allows everyone to discover the history, education, and daily life of children and youth of the past through this unique material. The Archive includes hundreds of exercise books from more than 30 different countries and dated from the late 1700s to the early 2000s. It is preserved and managed by the Milan-based NPO Quaderni Aperti (literally, Open Exercise Books).” So when you have some time to spare, dive into the archive to learn something new, find some new ideas or bask in the glory of adolescent creativity.
