762-Horsepower Hydrocar

762-Horsepower Hydrocar

Amphibious vehicles aren’t exactly practical, but they’re certainly gawk-worthy. Such is the case with the massive yellow Hydrocar. Built back in the early 2000s, the Hydrocar houses a Chevy big block V8 engine good for 762 horsepower and can go from road to waves without skipping a beat. The Hydrocar was built from the ground up for the water. Exhaust ports are mounted on top, and a propeller moves it once it hits the water. The Hydrocar’s corrosion-resistant aluminum body is built on a custom steel spaceframe, and it’s not just for show. The Hydrocar has been driven 27,000 land miles and 3,000 miles on water. The angular yellow bodywork, huge spoiler, gullwing doors, and Recaro racing seats give it a supercar look, but don’t expect it to haul ass in the water. Some drawbacks of the design include the inability to reach its 60 mph water speed, no HVAC, and the inability to roll down the windows, but the sheer level of attention from bystanders could just be worth it. Check it out at Barrett-Jackson where it’s currently up for auction.
