Chevy is bringing dedicated off-road goodness to its heavy duty 2500 truck in the form of the new Silverado HD ZR2. The big boy gets a redesigned suspension system with racing-derived Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers and a 1.5-inch lift kit. Approach, breakover, and departure angles improve over stock, and it also gets added ground clearance. The truck also gets model-specific front upper and lower control arms and steering knuckles, an electronic rear locking differential, and an Off-Road driving mode that automatically adjusts ABS and stability control while allowing the rear axle to lock at any speed. In terms of looks, it gets blackened trim bits, red tow hooks, black 18″ wheels, and the requisite ZR2 emblems. The brand will also bring a limited edition ZR2 Bison with AEV emblems, 18-inch beadlock capable wheels, a winch-ready steel front bumper, a stamped-steel rear bumper, and steel underbody skid plates to protect the steering rack, the exhaust system, and the transfer case.
The ZR2’s interior gets Black and Graystone leather upholstery, black trim, and materials that Chevrolet describes as being “simple to wipe clean after a day in the dirt.” There’s also a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a ginormous 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. A vivid 15-inch head-up display is optional that includes an inclinometer. Power comes from either a 401-hp 6.6-liter V8 or a 470-hp 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8. Shifting duties come by way of a 10-speed automatic transmission with a two-speed transfer case. There’s no pricing info or a release date yet, but expect the new truck to arrive later this year.
