2024 BMW i5

2024 BMW i5

As the venerable BMW 5 Series enters its 8th generation, the move involves electrification, to no one’s surprise. It’s called the i5, and it includes two models: the i5 eDrive40 and the sportier and more powerful i5 M60 xDrive. Styling is leaner and more rakish than the rather understated 7th-generation 5 Series. The eDrive40 trim provides 335 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, good for a 0-60 sprint of 5.7 seconds and top speed of 120 mph. Range on a full charge is 295 miles, and fast charging will take you from 10%-80% in 30 minutes. The i5 M50 xDrive delivers a substantial 590 hp and 549 lb-ft of torque, good for a 3.7-second 9-60 time and a top speed of 143 mph. Range on a full charge is a less robust 256 miles. The new Bimmer will also get the latest version of BMW’s iDrive infotainment systems, a suite of driving aids, and excellent levels of safety tech. Look for the new i5 in showrooms this October.
