Mazda builds some of the best vehicles for on-pavement driving enthusiasts, and now they want to take things off-road. That’s where the new CX-50 comes into play. About the size of the current and very popular CX-5 crossover, the CX-50 is more squared-off, wider, and geared more towards dirt, gravel, and mud than anything Mazda has in its current lineup. Black grille trim, more pronounced black fender trim, and even optional matte black hood decals and a safari roof rack are on the features list. Power will come from a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with 190 horsepower or an upgraded 4-cylinder turbo good for 250 horses. Both engines will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard. The interior is beautiful, as all Mazdas are, but squared off-HVAC vents and a selectable Off-Road mode are new. Look for the CX-50 to debut in 2022 with prices yet to be announced.
