A bunch of automotive purists laughed when Porsche made its first SUV, the Cayenne (hot like a pepper, baby!), way back in 2003. Porsche laughed all the way to the bank, and pretty much every premium brand now has a performance SUV. Well, the new king of that hill could very well be the 2022 Aston Martin DBX707, a pumped-up version of its recently released DBX. But instead of a paltry 542 horses found in the standard DBX, the DBX707 has 697 horses (707 metric horsepower, hence the name) and 663 lb-ft of pavement-warping torque. It receives new twin turbochargers, new engine tuning, a new quad exhaust, and the kind of acceleration that should require adult diapers. The DBX707 also gets the bones and bits to handle the extra power: reinforced chassis, revised dampers and springs, fat carbon-ceramic rotors, and six-piston calipers. “Race Start” launch mode will toss the DBX707 to 60 in a blistering 3.1 seconds, and it will top out at 193 mph. It should go on sale in Q2 of this year at a price that will have you draining your retirement savings.
