While everyone reading this is likely to have a different favorite car of all time, it’s hard to argue with Enzo Ferrari’s statement that the 60’s Jaguar E-Type is “the most beautiful car ever made.” The lines are unmatched even with modern production, it’s one of the most iconic cars ever produced and even one of the coolest cars in Seinfeld’s collection. Which brings us to this particular upcoming RM Sotheby’s auction that includes 1963 Jaguar E-Type Lightweight Continuation “Car 0.” Less than a decade ago, Jaguar decided to reproduce a number of examples of the revered Lightweight E-Types using the original engineering blueprints and designs based on the JLR unibody with aluminum wrap and featuring a Crosthwaite & Gardiner 3.8-liter inline-six. Jaguar Land Rover engineers estimate this process required investing some 50,000 man-hours into recreating the body and chassis alone. But still, they forged ahead to recreate the originals. This particular example–“Car 0”–was the first such Lightweight rebuilt and was created for promotional use by Jaguar Classic, so it isn’t even included in the initial production run, which makes it even rarer. The 1963 Jaguar E-Type Lightweight Continuation is set to roll across the block during the RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction in California on August 12th with an estimated price of $1.5mil – $1.85mil. Honestly, it’s probably going to go a lot higher than that given the pedigree and the fact it previously sold for $1.71mil.
