‘Patented’ Chronicles a Century of Fascinating Product and Industrial Design

Whether you’re talking about beer, brutalist architecture, chairs, living on water, the universe America, coffee or just about anything else, it’s a fair bet that renowned publisher Phaidon has published at least one hardcover tome on the subject. Their latest is the upcoming Patented: 1,000 Design Patents that will be released near the end of April. Patented: 1,000 Design Patents is billed as “an unprecedented, essential field guide to more than a century of fascinating product and industrial design,” and this 1,000+ page hardcover tome more than delivers on that claim. With works and references ranging from the likes of the Vespa Piaggio Scooter to the iPhone 1 and the works of Eero Saarinen to Charles Eames to Isamu Noguchi, along with everyday designs and patents for commonplace objects like pencil sharpeners, food processors, desk fans and drink bottles, this book is an easily referenced historical tome that contains information about the modern world’s most important inventions. Patented: 1,000 Design Patents will be released in hardcover format on April 21st of this year, but it’s available for pre-order now.
