If you’re not familiar with the work of Copenhagen-based artist Thomas Dambo, prepare to be amazed. Equal parts mystifying art and statement about protecting the environment, Dambo uses recycled materials to craft enormous fairy-tale inspired trolls. In his own words, “I build giant wooden trolls around the world and hide them in wilderness and forests. By doing this, I hope to lure people away from concrete cities and computer screens, into the wild and reconnect them with the natural world.” Having seen them in person we can tell you without a doubt that they are as awe-inspiring in fanciful whimsy, sheer size and impressive construction as you’d imagine a giant wooden troll would be. As if these things aren’t cool enough already, many of the installations all over the world are actually hidden so you have to go on an actual adventure to find them.
