Creating a luxury hotel that’s pretty much the exact opposite of the quite overdone Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas isn’t an easy feat, but Japan’s MUJI hotels have nailed it. Having opened their Shenzen, China hotel earlier this year, they’re about to open a new one in the Ginza region of Tokyo that exhibits the brand’s peace-imparting and visually stunning minimalism that belies most of Western culture’s excesses. MUJI brilliantly and appropriately describes its own aesthetic as “anti-gorgeous” and “anti-cheap,” but we beg to differ when it comes to the loveliness of the “less is more” approach. The new hotel will have 79 rooms parked from floors 6 to 10 in the new MUJI global flagship store. Nine room setups will be available, ranging from small spaces to big open plans. Sustainability is one of the brand’s major tenets, so there are recycled materials throughout, as well as a gamut of MUJI brand items in every room. The hotel opens April 4th, but you can make reservations now.
