Perfect for a weekend retreat or for your run-of-the-mill evil mastermind set on destroying the planet, the Maralah Cliff House is a sight to behold. Built by LAAV Architects, the structure protrudes from the side of a mountain in Calgary, overlooking a flowing river and a vast swath of land. Created with concrete, the home looks as if it was formed with the mountain, as if shifting plates pushed it from the ground with the rest of the earth. The space inside is quaint and cold, with exposed concrete and limestone and few appointments, save for a bend, kitchen area, and a storage space. It’s a perfect retreat to help you unwind and figure out how you can defeat the spy set on upending your mission.
