This Volvo XC60 T8 Is Made With Recycled Ocean Plastic and Fishing Nets

You’ve been bragging about your sustainably sourced flip flops. Well, Volvo is here to outdo you and then some with its earth-friendly poster child. This XC60 T8 Hybrid premium crossover is showcasing Volvo’s new approach to materials that will have the Chinese-owned Swedish automaker to infuse every vehicle in its lineup with 25% recycled materials by the year 2025. The seats in the XC60 have been made using recycled marine plastic bottles, while the cabin carpet and floor mats use repurposed fishing nets. Even the luggage compartments utilize recycled plastic from tomato sauce and shampoo bottles. As it heads towards electrification of its lineup, Volvo also wants to send a message about single-use plastic waste that won’t be lost on its typically conscientious customer base.
