Take one look at the SCC Tuatara (Maori for “first”), and you’d never guess it was homegrown. Yep, it’s the ultimate expression of Shelby Super Cars, and it’s got 1,750 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged 5.9-liter V8 mated to a remarkable seven-speed CIMA transmission that can rapid-fire gearshifts in 50 milliseconds. The Tuatara can rocket to a top speed of over 300 mph thanks to the insane engine output, the slippery body, massive amounts of downforce, and a superlight 2,750-pound weight. Although it can comfortably manage low-speed driving duties, put it into Track Mode and things light up fast. The active rear wing ca adjust pitch and height to balance airflow and downforce, and the suspension lowers to meet the challenge. The scissor doors open up to an opulent and purposeful interior that can handle drivers up to 6’5″. It’s going after the production car speed record to steal it back from the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Long Tail, which hit 304.773 mph last year. Only 100 Tuataras will be made at a base price of $1,625,000 each. This first black production model goes to one very wealthy customer in Pennsylvania who probably has a solid budget to pay for speeding tickets and bail.
