The legendary 1992 McLaren F1 is a bona fide supercar icon that bests modern iterations even a quarter century later. Well, McLaren Automotive took everything it knew about the F1 and created a line of modern cars that should stand the test of time for performance, style, and exclusivity. The new 600LT (‘Longtail’) Spider follows in the footsteps of its 600LT Coupe brother and brings the power and drama but this time with the top down. Its carbon composite MonoCell II is as rigid as the day is long for optimal handling, and the weight is only 110 lbs more than the hard top. The marginal weight increase means the same 592 horsepower engine as the coupe only sacrifices 0.2 seconds to the coupe’s time of 2.6 seconds. The dramatic Long Tail stems from the legendary F1 GTR “Longtail” that won Le Mans in its first outing, and the Spider is its direct legacy.
