Say what you will about an electric Hummer. If GM wants to bring the Humvee back, it can’t be in the form of the gas-guzzling titans of yesteryear. The electric Hummer is on its way this fall, and even before it launches, a race version will run in the first race in the Extreme E Race Series. The all-electric off-road vehicle race, the Desert X Prix in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia, will feature Chip Ganassi Racing’s 550 horsepower electric SUV inspired by the new Hummer EV. Of course, it will be even more radical than the stock version, with more substantial off-road suspension, custom chassis, and crazy amounts of clearance. Five races will take place all over the world to showcase what off-road racing EVs are truly capable of. Our guess is there won’t be chargers or Wifi along the courses.
