Hispano Suiza Maguari HS1 GTC Hypercar

If you don’t know the Hispano Suiza name, we don’t blame you. A pre-WWII luxury carmaker, their name is now under new Swiss ownership. Their new hypercar is equal parts old school and new school and is called the Maguari HS1 GTC, apparently named for a South American stork. Exhibiting speeds far greater than the bird, the car is powered by Lamborghini’s 5.2-liter V10 engine from the Huracan, combined with two electric-compressed turbos and a supercharger. Total power output is a pavement-ripping 1,085 horsepower. It should rocket to 62 mph (100 kmh) in a scant 2.8 seconds and top out at 236 mph. Almost as important as its high-speed capabilities is the styling of the car, which is anything but derivative in a world of Lambo copies. The sloping hood in silver is beautifully simple, and the huge intakes flank a stork’s head and wings offer the right touch of drama. The body is fluid and extends to similarly large rear vents, a louvered engine cover, and segmented quad tailpipes that are both artful and unique. 300 versions of the Maguari will be built with 10 special edition cars reserved for privileged customers. It will be on display in Geneva next week in all its glory.
