The East Coast Defender hits just keep on coming with Project Blackout. What started as a 1987 Defender 90 has been reborn as a black-on-black-on-black monster decked out in both performance and creature comforts. The brief provided to ECD by the customer described something “equally at home on the road as it is during a long weekend at the beach.” The 5.3-liter 326-hp Chevy LC9 V8 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission delivers in both power and a smooth ride, and the Kenwood infotainment system, amplified speakers and heated leather seats will leave you comfortable and content regardless of how long the trip is. It’s a menacing piece of machinery that also happens to be relaxing on the inside. Put it this way—if the cast of Predator decided they wanted to go to the beach after a hard day of air arm wrestling and saving the world, this is the vehicle they’d ride in.
