Dyson’s Canceled Electric Car Has Been Revealed

Whether you’re talking about vacuums, air purifiers, fans or hair care hardware, it’s a fair bet that Dyson is the name to beat in each of the fields. Sir James Dyson’s eponymous products have always combined style, substance and performance in a unique way that more than justified the higher price tags. Years ago, Dyson set out to create their own electric car that would have been the perfect embodiment of everything the brand stood for. Codenamed “N526,” the Range Rover style vehicle would have enough room for seven passengers, a top speed of 125 mph and an absolutely obscene 600 mile range per charge because of the company’s proprietary solid-state batteries. The craziest part of the story is they actually built the damned thing, and Dyson himself drove the prototype in secret. Unfortunately, Dyson himself shelved the entire project near the end of last year after sinking more than $500mil of his own money into it because it wasn’t commercially viable–each Dyson car would have needed to make almost $200,000 just to break even. Though we’re not likely to ever see one on the road, at least now it’s been unveiled so we can see what might have been.
