If you’re in the market for an updated version of the WWII Jeep, this may be your best shot at getting one. The Toyota FJ40 comes from a time when the Land Cruiser bore a much closer resemblance to its WWII inspiration, having a more boxy body, utilitarian interior, and construction that’s much more suited to off-roading than a morning commute. The car’s been fully restored, with an all-black paint job, short wheelbase chassis, and an F-series 3.9L engine. There’s a modern stereo system in the dashboard, but that’s about as modern as the interior gets, opting instead for the traditional large character readouts and dials on the driver’s display. Transmission is a 4-speed manual shifter, an upgrade from the initial release’s 3-speed, but still something automatic drivers are going to need to adjust to. Maybe best of all is the price tag. The FJ40 comes in just below 40 grand, and while they might not be pocket change, it’s way more affordable than the modern Land Cruiser, which generally isn’t the way these old-school restoration jobs go.
