Describing the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen as long in the tooth would be understatement of the year because there hasn’t really been a brand new model since the G-Class debuted in the late ’70s. Until now! Mercedes has finally unveiled the new 2019 G-Class and it, well, looks a lot like the old G. Sure, there are a few more rounded corners and slightly different touches on the exterior, but overall it’s pretty much the same. That’s a great thing because the iconic exterior didn’t really need updating. What did need updating was everything else—which Mercedes did with this model. It’s longer and wider, which makes for a much more comfortable ride in the interior space department. It has a new independent front suspension with a permanent four-wheel drive system, three locking differentials and a low-range gearbox. It has a 416hp, 450 lb-ft, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. Mercedes also fitted the new G-Wagen with an interior that’s every bit as luxurious as a brand new Mercedes, even one built for the apocalypse, should be. In short, the new G-Wagen is amazing.
