1979 Porsche 935

Everyone knows the Porsche 911. Perhaps the most iconic sports car of all time needs no introduction. But the 935, the racing version of the Porsche 911 Turbo, was born in the ’70s and is, essentially, a legend in the pantheon of endurance racing. The 935 has taken wins at Le Mans, Daytona, and Sebring, the grand slam of grueling 24 hour races. The rear-mounted win-turbo flat-six engine mated to a manual transmission that drove the rear wheels was a powerhouse that wouldn’t quit, and the downforce created by the huge spoiler made it sticky in the esses. This particular 935 in Vintage Racing Blue was originally owned by Otis Chandler, the once L.A. Times publisher and Porsche collector. It’s one of a mere seven made in 1979, and it stands apart from the rest of its white-painted brethren because of its unique hue that was made to match Chandler’s Porsche 917/30, another racing legend. This 935 was raced only one time and then moved to Chandler’s own private collection. Its second owner has recently restored it to near perfection, and it’s just how you see it now, ready for auction.
