Although Nissan plans to bring a new Z-Car to the masses later this year, we’re always stirred by the original. This 1978 Pearl Black Metallic Datsun 280Z is just such an example. Fewer than 1,500 of the 280Zs were produced with this paint color were ever built and only in the 1978 model year. It also comes with the Special Appearance Package with special graphics, racing mirrors, and rear louvered window glass. The rear-wheel drive car houses a 2.8-liter inline-six engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The car also comes with 14″ factory Z wheels, black vinyl seats, woodgrain trim, A/C, and an AM/FM radio. As a couple of claims to fame, this very car was featured in the January 2009 issue of Hemmings Sports and Exotics, as well as time spent in the Datsun Heritage Museum in Murrieta, California. The full numbers-matching 280Z just sold on Bring-A-Trailer for about six times the original price. complete with original window sticker, 1978 sales paperwork, factory manuals, service records, and a clean California title.
