As iconic as the James Bond Aston Martin DB5 coupe is, our hearts palpitate when we lay eyes on the station wagon (shooting brake in Britspeak) version of it. Former Aston Martin owner David Brown commissioned renowned premium coachbuilder Harold Radford & Co. Limited to build it for him and his small set of customers who wanted more capacity without losing refinement. The bones, of course, come from the DB5, and the Shooting Brake has the same engine in the form of a 4.0-liters straight-six with 282 bhp to the rear wheels mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The back of the cabin is the most dramatic change and has been extended to a capacious greenhouse while retaining the DB5’s triple round vertically stacked taillights and the same chrome bumper. Only 12 have been made, and this silver version will go up for auction at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction on August 15th. It should command upwards of $1,000,000 and will make one collector very happy.
