What do a bunch of space nerds do while they’re sitting around waiting for the SpaceX Falcon Heavy launch to happen? When they have access to a fleet of giant composite extrusion 3D printers they set about making their own Falcon 9 Rocket… chandelier. Designed by humans, built by robots and inspired, obviously, by SpaceX and a love of space in general, the team made a 9 socket rocket chandelier that will make any dinner party or entryway far more interesting. They’re making the Falcon 9 Rocket Chandelier with two different versions of the nozzles. One is a Polycarbonate version that’s glass fiber reinforced and has a flexural yield of 210MPa with a Youngs Modulus of 17GPa which we’ve been told makes a nice gong sound when struck. The other option is PPS-carbon fiber reinforced option which basically means it’s made of the highest strength 3D printed material ever developed. Production of the chandelier takes approximately six weeks so plan accordingly.
