At some point, we’ve all gotten a bill from the electricity company that was significantly higher than we anticipated. Most of those bills come with monthly or year-to-year usage estimates, but those graphs are generally based on overall usage, not the specific items in your house that are costing you a pretty penny to operate. Enter the Sense Energy Monitor, the home energy monitor that tracks electricity usage in real-time. Unlike other power tracking options that force you to check devices individually, Sense is installed in your electrical panel (by a licensed electrician!) to monitor all the power usage throughout your use. Over time, the machine learning algorithms that Sense uses will identify unique signatures for each device and deliver specific information (time on, when it was used, cost calculations, etc.) to the iPhone, Android or Web apps. It also works with Alexa, Hue, Wemo and most of the other smart plugs on the market, so easy home automation integration is easy. You’re gonna have to spend a couple hundred bucks up front to buy it and have it installed, but the long-term cost-savings once you know what to turn off will make it pay for itself.
