After much discussion, we ultimately decided that Bear Grylls is relatively manly – if for no reason other than the fact he’s got a Gerber knife named after him. We also decided that the really manly men are the ones without camera crews. You know, the ones who make their own knives to use as tools. Thanks to Orvis and their Knife-Making Kit, you can be one of those men. It includes all the components to make your own Scandinavian puuko-style hunting knife: stainless blade, birch handle block, reindeer spacer and hide leather, plastic sheath lining and – of course – instructions. Not that you would ever use instructions. It does not, however, include the tools to make the knife. You’re going to have to supply those yourself. You didn’t think you were going to get your own knife without some blood, sweat and tears did you?
